The Roaring Forties

The Roaring Forties is a "spirited pre-acappellan group" performing unaccompanied chorus songs in the English traditional style. The songs they choose are robust - telling of real people, their lives and work. Their love of singing is infectious. The Forties are from all over Sydney and yes, the beards are REAL!

Each of the five members of the group is a strong singer in his/her own right and the vigour and interplay of their combined voices makes for a distinctive sound. Much of their material has been honed by generations of folk singers; other songs are contemporary but composed with respect for the tradition.

Members of the group are: John Warner, Margaret Walters, Thomas Hanson, Robin Connaughton and Don Brian. They have two CDs – Hazard Hardship and Damned Little Pay and Shore Leave. They are working on a third: Getting About a Bit.
